May 23, 2019 Michigan ACE Initiative Conference

Primary tabs

Event Date:
05/23/2019 - 10:00am to 3:00pm

The Michigan ACE Initiative was created just over two years ago and has devoted its energy to provide awareness of the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences in Michigan.  This initial focus on awareness was accomplished through a variety of ways: (1) presentations to various groups, organizations and agencies across the state, (2) supportive training of four cohorts of Master Trainers that we remain in partnership to assist in local grassroots involvement, and (3) the consensus of our State Steering Committee in the development of a Policy agenda.

It is now time to shift the focus of our conversation to the next step—that is, resilience.  In doing so, we need to be clear that the Michigan Ace Initiative is continuing its efforts on awareness as that needs to be sustained. We will also continue to support new cohorts of Master Trainers (our 2019 cohort taking place May 21-22).  All facets of our Initiative have expressed the “need and want” to take the next step, but to do so in a way that is coordinated, based on science and best practices, and one in which local and state synergies are created.

The Michigan ACE Initiative Conference is therefore responding to this need and is dedicated to this “next step.”  Our selection of national speakers, and the facilitation of several panels of experts, are designed exactly with resilience in mind.  Moreover, during the conference we will debut our new Michigan Ace Initiative on Resilience—showcasing vignettes of local interventions. Our intent and overall objective remains the same:  Reduced impact of Adverse Childhood Experience in Michigan.
